Angus Macdonald, inventor of the am-cor™ unified steel and cement structual system and President of am-cor inc., presented a well-received technical paper at the 8th International Symposium of Ferrocement and Thin Reinforced Composites (Ferro8), in Bangkok, Thailand. The presentation illustrated hurricane & earthquake resistant structural details employed in the construction of recent am-cor projects in Jamaica, W.I. The details were shown in architectural format and accompanied by a slideshow of construction photography. Key elements in disaster resistant structures are: roof peak, roof to wall connection at eaves, wall to intermediate floor, and wall to ground floor and foundation details. Macdonald showed how to join ferrocement and light gauge steel members so as to provide resistance against rotation at these critical connections.
